There are "very productive conversations going on with China," according to a recent tweet from President Trump. Encouraging as such remarks are, it is a long way from a December tweet to the results of the current 90-day negotiating period. More to the point, whatever the outcome of the current talks, the tensions that flared into retaliatory tariffs earlier this year had been building for years, and it may well be years before U.S.-China trade returns to the relative calm of normal, incidental disputes. That's a problem. China and the United States are the world's two largest trading nations. Their differences affect the world at large. They especially affect the countries of the Asia Pacific Region. This next GBD colloquium will focus how key regional players look at and adjust to the evolving relationship between the giants.
