"Living a Life of Service and Advocacy"

Join WWLI for a Networking Luncheon and presentation 'Living a Life of Service and Advocacy' featuring Dr. Ximena Hartsock as she shares her experience immigrating to the US, serving the District of Columbia as a cabinet member in the Fenty administration and then founding a technology firm that’s at the forefront of advocacy. Our event includes presentation, luncheon, and networking.

About the speaker:

Ximena Hartsock is the Founder and President of Phone2Action, a venturebacked, award-winning civic engagement and communications technology company based in Rosslyn, Virginia.

Prior to founding Phone2Action she was a member of the executive cabinet of former Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, serving as the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, and later as the Chief of Staff of the City Administration.

As Parks Director, she managed more than 1,000 employees. During her tenure, she oversaw renovations of several D.C. public facilities including the completion of D.C.’s state-of-the-art Olympic facility, Wilson Pool, the construction of numerous athletic fields and parks, and the implementation of wellness programs for seniors, youth and families.

Before serving as Parks Director, Ximena was Deputy Chief for Teaching and Learning for D.C. Public Schools under the education overhaul led by Michelle Rhee and Adrian Fenty. In that role, she led key reforms, including the expansion of online learning, the International Baccalaureate program, STEM education, foreign language programs, and the implementation of a comprehensive “Out of School Time” curriculum that served students after school, on weekends, and in the summer. She also led the implementation of a credit recovery program for students at risk of dropping out. These efforts were key in improving D,C.’s historically low graduation rates. Ximena came to that position after working in D.C. Government as an educator and school principal.

Ximena’s company Phone2Action is the leading software platform for civic engagement in the United States. Organizations and companies including the American Heart Association, The Recording Industry, Lyft, Ben & Jerry’s, Tesla, Airbnb, and many others use Phone2Action to run public policy campaigns.

Phone2Action has won many prestigious technology awards including the SXSW Interactive Accelerator Award and Reed Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2018. In 2017, Phone2Action was named Most Innovative Technology in Advocacy by Campaigns and Elections magazine. Ximena has received multiple awards for leadership and public service. In 2017 Hartsock made the Power 100 list by the Washington Business Journal. In 2017 she was named a Washington, D.C. Tech Titan by Washingtonian Magazine. She has been featured, among others, in Fortune, Forbes The Washington Post, and the New York Times. Ximena is an education advocate at heart and is proud to have formed a company that builds technology that empowers people to effect change.

She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Washington Economic Club, the Board of Industry Leaders of the Consumer Technology Association, and DC Vote.

A native of Chile, she holds a Doctorate in Administration and Policy from The George Washington University.
